Frequently Asked Questions
What age can students start lessons?
I teach students as young as three years old. For more information on how I teach my youngest students, check out the Preschool Piano page.
What if my child has special learning needs?
We specialise in supporting students with various learning needs, including neurodivergent students. Our lessons are customised to cater to individual needs and learning styles.
Do you teach adults?
Yes! I love working with adult students. Check out the Adult Lessons page for more information.
How much do lessons cost?
You can find all the information regarding the cost of lessons HERE
What happens if I’m unable to attend my lesson?
If students are unable to attend their lesson, they have the option of an online lesson (at their scheduled lesson time), or a video lesson to complete in their own time. See our Fees & Policies for more information on these options.
Do we need a piano at home?
Yes! Regular practise at home is needed to ensure consistent progress, so all students require access to an instrument to practise on at home. I can provide information on a suitable instrument if needed.
How much practice is needed?
The amount of practice required varies based on the student’s age, skill level, and desired pace of progress. During lessons, I work closely with each student to provide personalised guidance on their practice needs, taking into consideration their unique goals and learning needs. While specific practice times can vary, here’s an approximate guide:
Young students and beginners – 10-15 minutes each day
Elementary students – 20-30 minutes each day
Intermediate students – 30-45 minutes each day
Advanced students – 60 minutes each day
How long do lessons go for?
Private lessons are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes in length, depending on the level and goals of the individual student. Deluxe (group) lessons are 60 minutes in length.
When are lessons held?
Students attend their lesson at the same time each week, during school terms. There are no regular scheduled lessons during school holidays, or on public holidays.
Where are lessons held? Do you offer lessons at students’ homes?
Lessons are held at my home studio in Bacchus Marsh. I do not travel to students’ homes, however, if you’d like lessons from the comfort of your own home, have a look at our Online Lessons.
Can I observe my child’s lesson?
Parents are welcome to sit in on individual lessons. Visitors are asked to remain quiet to minimise distraction during the lesson. Parents or other visitors are not able to sit in on group lessons.
Do I need to buy any books?
No. Our tuition fees are all-inclusive, so there are no surprises. All required books and materials are included in your tuition fees.
Do you offer group lessons?
Yes. Check out our Deluxe Lessons for a fantastic group option, that still allows students to receive 1:1 attention with the teacher. Group lessons are also offered during some school holidays, depending on interest from students.
What type of music can I learn?
Anything you like! We cover a wide range of music during lessons (classical, jazz, blues, pop), to ensure we cover a well-rounded curriculum, and I’m always happy to include any style of music that the student enjoys.
Can students sit exams?
Students are welcome to sit exams if they choose to, but it is not required.
